The ghostly servants of Bitterhelm, those thralls forced to linger even after their bodies withered away over the centuries, were pitifully few. Too many had faded from wisps into shadow, and their whispers haunted Vynasha’s waking steps. Even here, in the room of their sleeping prince. “Be strong of will…” The walls whispered voices were softer today, at least. But the voices sounded far too much like her faded friend for comfort. “Face your reflection… Claim the mirror you must before the end…” Digging her claws deeper into her palm, Vynasha reached into the threads that bound her to the castle and hissed, “Enough, Hvalla. I know what I have to do.”

“I thought perchance you would like to go for a walk today.” Vynasha held her breath. “This coming from the prince who wouldn’t let me walk across my room alone?” She followed the stitched pattern of silver leaves on her new dress and purposely brushed against his hand. He stilled beneath her touch, and his piercing stare heated with the echo of desire once again. “It has been three days.” She leaned into his touch and savored the rush of his power coursing through their bond. Not too much, just enough to feed her starving body of the magick it craved. “Meaning you believe I’m strong enough?” Grendel looked away and began to lay out the layers over her bed. “Meaning I will be here to catch you if you should fall.” Balos stiffened slightly at the sight, then relaxed when she placed a hand against his back. I’m with you, she silently vowed.

The flowers lining the door frame began to shed more violet petals as they gradually wilted. Balos stiffened slightly at the sight, then relaxed when she placed a hand against his back. I’m with you, she silently vowed.

Still, she couldn’t deny how the persistent itch beneath her skin abated with him beside her, holding her hand. It shouldn’t have mattered. Truly, she hated how easily she gave in to these feelings. She could never tell him. Grendel had bound her life to his. Even if she were to leave, to beg the wylderfolk to take her back into their home, she would never be rid of him. And the longer she remained in the prince’s castle, the less she wanted to be free.

Bound Beauty Update

To those of you who have been patiently waiting for the next in my Wylder Tales series, I wanted to thank you so much for your support, and to apologize for yet another delay. Because I had already been forced to push back my pre-order's release date on Amazon, I ran out of additional dates and had to take down my listing today. This doesn't mean I won't release Bound Beauty period, just that we're looking at a summer release instead of spring.

When I started publishing, I focused on blogging more than sending newsletters, social media, or even ads. Since having my second kid and moving into a new home, it's been more difficult to make time for blogging on top of work and writing. Confessions of a Storytelling Snob

The past couple of decades have seen some great films and shows, no doubt. But it's also seen a rise in increasingly formulaic and quickly produced content. We're getting more and more of the same, and less and less variety and (in my opinion) creative freedom.
