The best advice I can offer you is to not be your worst enemy. You’ll always find someone out there who is better (or more experienced) than you are. But when you focus too much on how much better someone else seems to be or be doing, it’s way too easy to lose sight of your progress. Remember, if you’re writing, you’re constantly growing your craft. It won’t happen overnight. It’s going to take time, hard work, and little thanks in the beginning (sometimes longer).
Now that I'm in my 30's, I've realized how important it is to cut out time for myself. I used to guilt myself over this as a new mom, but after crashing and burning because I wasn't taking care of myself, I've learned from past mistakes. No matter how much you love your kids, your spouse, or your job, you can't neglect yourself.
At the end of the day, I can't really say what's going to happen in the future. I'll finish my second draft of Blackbriar Cove. I'll hug my little guy. I'll read a lot of books. Above all, I'll keep writing, no matter what. That's my promise to my future self.
