Try Not

I’m an author. When I introduce myself to people that is probably the last thing that comes to mind. Ironic when that is also the number one thing on my mind most of the day.

While I’m at work, looking after children, changing diapers and wiping snotty noses, I’m writing in my head. When I’m running outside I’m imagining myself in the worlds I create. I remember reading once that writers are constantly writing in their heads, whether they have a pen or keypad on hand. And I’m happy to report I fall into this category of creative eccentrics.

Oh don’t even look at me like that! If you aren’t artsy fartsy yourself you know someone who is. Think about this person for a second and how they react to everyday situations… Got it in your head? Yep, I see you’ve come round to my way of thinking now ;).

Now that we’ve established I write for a living (albeit a miniscule ammount at the  moment…) why don’t I introduce myself as an authoress?

One big reason.

I haven’t “made it” yet. I suppose in my mind, to qualify as a true author I need to give people a title to my name. Like, “Oh yeah! That was me who wrote that!” But shouldn’t we writers be proud that we’re putting out at least? So what if you haven’t made it big yet?

Your time, like mine, is coming. Never give up and one day you’ll be the one with a thousand hits and plenty of sales. But never mind about the popularity or the sales. For one minute, let your mind take you to the reason you started writing in the first place. Or if you’re an avid reader by trade, what was it that made you fall in love with the written word?

Got it in your head yet?

For me it was the adventure. Every time my dad put me to sleep to a bedtime story, mom pulled me into her lap to “read” a book; whenever I learned I could put my own imaginings to paper, another journey began. That’s the best part of any story, never forget.

It’s all about “getting there”, the journey. That’s what people love to love. That’s what ‘The Neverending Story’ was all about!

So next time someone asks me what I do for a living, I’m going to keep my chin up and proudly assert, “Jennifer Silverwood: Authoress”. 🙂

Keep checking here for my latest updates!

I’ve already published one novella, Qeya: Heaven’s Edge, but it’s in the works for  a crisper 3rd edition. And yes, third will be the last I promise ;).

Keep an eye out for updates and tidbits about Silver Hollow, my first full length novel.

And keep on reading/writing every day. I don’t always succeed but I try.

And Yoda knew his business when he said, “Try not! Do or do not. There is no try.”

😉
