Hello, friends! I’m slowly coming “back online” as I finish Bound Beauty and try to breathe life back into my books. I’ve come to a decision for this year to stop holding myself back. Are any of you guilty of this, too?

I am fully capable. I have written and published books for over ten years now, and so I know I’m are capable. The proof’s in the pudding. But no matter how many times I publish, the pressures of life and crippling self-doubt come to call. I call this the “creative people cycle.” Many of us are prone to melancholy and perfectionists to a fault. It can be impossible to see the good and beauty in our own work when we only see the mistakes.

As someone who’s always preaching to see the forest through the trees, to see beauty in the everyday little moments, this is something I continue to struggle with. When I talk about seeking beauty to lift your spirits, I speak from experience. It has been and continues to be the best method I’ve found to fight back melancholy and ugly thoughts. Life is beautiful, friends, even if it can seem so very ugly at times.

The same can be said for what we create. Nothing we make is truly perfect, and that’s what makes it real and human. In a world where technology is advancing at breakneck speed, I believe we should treasure our imperfections and even celebrate them.

So, after a year of unintended hiatus, I’m pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I want to do the things I’ve been afraid to do. I want to be intrepid and prolific the way I was in my early to mid-twenties. So I’ve been writing, yes, and creating little vids, taking bookish pics. I’m not a marketing expert, and I loathe so much about social media if I’m honest. So I’ll be doing this my way, like I’ve always done when it comes to my art.

Whether this breeds success, I guess we’ll find out. At this point in my life and career, I’m happy to play the long game.

Wherever you’re at today, I hope you find the courage to be intrepid, friend. Don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Take a leap and find happiness in the little victories.
