Most of y'all already know I'm a cross-genre reader and author. I feel like each of them bring fresh ideas and perspectives, but I especially love when a story bends the rules a wee bit. In Kimberly Packard's latest novel, we begin with a fresh dose of 90s nostalgia before deep diving into the surreal and supernatural.
Living in the moment and bookish updates
Every book I write is a labor of love. The hardest part for me has always been marketing. I have taken countless courses and workshops, read so many books, and listened to hours of podcasts. The pervading truth I've come to believe is success is different for everyone. Even #1 NYT Bestsellers can't always explain the alchemy that led to their success. I believe it's part luck, part insanely hard work and commitment, with a sprinkling of talent. Ironically enough, talent isn't always the deciding factor, but that's another story. As my friend Mel and I always say before a release: "Here we go again. Let's see if this one sticks!"
Book Review: The Queen Among Kings
I adore character-driven stories, but it's far rarer to have the opportunity to read fiction so well researched with such an epic scope. You really could tell how much care and devotion Martin put into crafting The Queen Among Kings. If you're like me and adore all things A World of Ice and Fire, but also the history that inspired it, this may be the next read for you. Intrigued yet? Keep reading for my review!
Two weeks until Bound Beauty’s Release!
I finally finished Bound Beauty! After a rigorous round of rewrites and edits, I'm excited to share the final result with y'all this coming month. We're actually a little over two weeks away, now. And because this is Book 3, and I really want to give it an extra fun send-off, I'm going all in for this release. Interested in helping out and helping me spread the word?
Silver Hollow has a new cover!
Welcome back to another writerly wittering update, friend! Let's be honest, this is more of a monthly than a weekly series, and has been for some time. Alas, I'm far too lazy to change the title, and it serves as a long-standing goal of mine. Maybe future me will finally get this whole scheduling thing right? Someday when I'm not chasing a toddler around the house... On that note, let's talk about the Borderland Saga and Silver Hollow!
May you be intrepid
Nothing we make is truly perfect, and thatโs what makes it real and human. In a world where technology is advancing at breakneck speed, I believe we should treasure our imperfections and even celebrate them.
May you be inspired
I spent countless more hours running outside alone or with my best friends, digging literal holes, pretending with leaves and berries to craft pretend potions, or just climbing any tree I could reasonably scale. And it struck me that my kids have been raised in an entirely different environment.
Once Upon a Wylder Tale
While I aim for crafting my ongoing revision of Bound Beauty, I thought it might be fun to share a series of ficlets out-of-order scenes. I've been collecting these to keep the lore of this series fresh in my head, and uncovered a few gems along the way. Be forewarned, these may contain minor spoilers for the series. But if you enjoy your fantasy in smaller doses, this may be perfect for you. Happy reading, fellow wylderoflk...
Bound Beauty – New Release Date
Hello and welcome back to the blog (no one reads?), where I occasionally rant and talk about writing and life. Or more accurately, how I continue to make my way in the bookish world the hard way ๐
Book Review: Canyon of Deceit
Therese is haunted by her sister's death. Blane is haunted by the foolish choices of his youth. Both carry their tragedies in different ways, both chased careers that would allow them to rescue innocents, unlike the ones they failed to save. And both race to save a kidnapped child's life before the clock runs out. It's a race against time, against the elements, and against themselves, and the only ones they can rely on are each other. Intrigued? Keep reading for my review + the giveaway! #LSLLCanyonofdeceit #TexasAuthor #LoneStarLit
