Welcome back to yet another weekly wittering post, friend. This past week I enjoyed a week off with my family for some much needed recoop. In truth it was more of a “staycation” since we spent the weekend before traveling to my son’s karate tournament. The trip offered us a chance to visit some amazing sites tied to Texas history.
My family has been in Texas for a long time, on both sides. And while my actual great-greats were busy protecting the family farm, I learned I had an extra great uncle who actually fought in the Texas Revolution. This was that crazy time when a haphazard group of misfits fought Santa Anna’s much better armed and organized Mexcan army, miraculously won, and went on to found Texas as an independent nation.
My son learned about all of this in school this past year, and loves war history, so you can just imagine his excitement. Moments like this are what make these trips worthwhile. To experience something through my kid’s eyes makes it brand new for me, and brings some of that nostalgia magic back. I feel extremely lucky to have the life I have. We struggle every month, but we always manage to make it somehow. And we work extra hard to give our kids a little more when and where we can. For me, the key to happiness is just that: bringing happiness to others. But enough about me…
I finally finished Bound Beauty! After a rigorous round of rewrites and edits, I’m excited to share the final result with y’all this coming month. We’re actually a little over two weeks away, now.
