Linda’s Reviews – Review

This book is a slow burn of a very intriguing fantasy story. The magic, circumstances and excitement will have you wondering what’s going to happen next in each chapter. Vynasha’s quest to find her brother and father takes her on a journey of discovery she never expected. What she finds out will blow her mind. This is a new author to me and looking forward to read more of her books. If you like YA fantasy, this book is for you.

Spinning Starlight – Review

I love, love, LOVE, certain fairytale retellings. One of my favourites, that I’ve read and re-read over and over, is a Beauty and the Beast retelling. So when I saw this, I knew I had to try it. And I was not let down! The book got right into the action, making Beauty a magic user, which immediately made it different from other retellings.

Duckfacekim09 – Review

The most important things about this book:
1. It’s a Beauty And The Beast retelling
2. This book is literally STUNNING, and I don’t just mean the cover, the detail on the inside pages is also insane.

And in terms of a retelling, this was great. Although I haven’t read many other retellings (I own a lot though) so I didn’t have much to compare it to. I liked that our Beauty wasn’t just conventionally beautiful.

Ivani’s Book Addiction – Review

This book gave me majorly Beauty and the Beast vibes. A dark fantasy perfect for fans of Margaret Rogerson and Holly Black. It did not disappoint. It was definitely a book that took time to get into but the chapter art and the general aesthetic of the book was what drew me in.

This is Volume One of many Volumes to come. I am excited to see more of Jennifer Silverwood’s work. Her world-building really grew on me and got to understand the world Vynasha was in. A fantasy filled book with twists and surprises.

Sunshine and Rollercoasters Blog – Review & Guest Post

Beauty and the Beast is one of my all-time favorite stories, so I was excited to see that this was a new twist with on an age old story.  The book is a dark fantasy and is beautifully written with interesting and unique characters.  If you like the fantasy genre, then I think this is a great book for you. I think the writer did a great job of providing details that would draw me into the book, but the ending of the book left a lot of questions unanswered, so now I’m anxiously awaiting the arrival of “Scarred Beauty” so that I can hopefully get some answers. All in all, I highly recommend the book if you are looking for a unique tale that will draw you into a new and interesting story.

The story was very enjoyable. Is like a fairy tale with magic, curses and other beings. The creation of this world was good and the idea behind it was great.

Radiant Reading Reviews – Review

This book was amazing – it was a dark retelling of Beauty and the Beast (one of my favorite fairy tales) and I am so glad that I read it. It had stunning writing and short easy-to-read chapters that made me want to keep reading the book. Silverwood does an excellent job at crafting a main character that I wanted to root for the whole time. I loved how strong Vynasha was and how she approached the world around her. This book is a retelling that keeps the dark and twisted tone of old fairy tales but also keeps the story fresh for a new set of readers.

Diane’s Book Journal – Review

Craving Beauty is a haunting, dark and twisty retelling that will hold you captive from the first chapter. A fantastic and enjoyable story and I recommend it, particularly if you enjoy Fairytales!

Review Thick And Thin – Review

“Craving Beauty” delves into themes of sacrifice, self-discovery, and the price of breaking curses. The novel explores the consequences of choices made in desperation and the transformative power of love and redemption. These themes resonate with readers, drawing them further into the magical world of the Wylder Tales. In conclusion, “Craving Beauty” is a spellbinding and captivating fantasy novel that will leave readers yearning for more.

@book.x.butterfly – Review

First of all, I loved the writing style! It felt kind of like an old fairytale, with a slight lyricalness. At times it was difficult to follow but overall it felt like a unique style. I loved the emotion in the book the most. Vynasha goes through a lot, and I feel like the portrayal was raw and relatable at times. She’s faced with tough decisions and handles them well ✨Overall I’m really looking forward to the next book, and I’d recommend it if you like The Cruel Prince!

Interview with Winter Betancourt

Winter Betancourt: Can you tell us about the inspiration behind “Craving Beauty” and how the concept for the Wylder Tales Series came to you?

Jennifer Silverwood: I was inspired by the origins of fairy tales and folklore, the “truth” buried beneath the legends we continue to retell today. So while Craving Beauty leans heavily into one of my favorite fairy tales, there are pieces and slivers of historical context, along with the question of magic. What if magic was real, if not now, then “once upon a time,” and how would a character like Vynasha be impacted by the stigma of “witchcraft?

Character Musings and Madness – Guest Post

“How do you make the flowers last through winter, Mama?” Vynasha asked the moment she was old enough to. It was just the two of them in the garden, knee-deep in soft soil and new snow drifting onto the shawls covering their heads. The cold never bothered them the same way it bothered the others.

Wynyth smiled as she ran her hands over the thorny stems. Beads of blood caught along the edge of the thorns and the snow seemed to thin, the wind to sigh, and the flowers leaned closer to their hidden place in the garden. “To give life requires sacrifice, you see.”

Mother’s hand was almost too warm as she took Vynasha’s hand and showed her how to coax the other roses to bloom. Buds unfurled before them and though the thorns pricked her skin, Vynasha smiled.

“I see!” The air thickened with roses and spices, and her blood burned hotter, her senses seemed sharper. “Is this magick, Mama?”

Bookish_carlzie – Review

If you love a retelling, this book is for you. A different take on the story of Beauty and the Beast, with a dark and creepy twist. The story starts slowly and picks up around halfway through the story. The story has a lot of nods towards the original story, and this made it more enjoyable.

The book has a variety of characters, I did get a little confused at one point as a lot of characters are introduced at the same time. But the characters are well written, and the story flows well.

Bookworm for Kids – Review

The world is crafted with as much poetic beauty as the writing. It’s a treat to visit each scene and simply sink into the moment. It weaves with Vynasha’s journey to form a vivid atmosphere and makes the tension, worries, struggles, and hopes dig deep.

Jazzy Book Reviews – Review

Craving Beauty is a unique fairy tale with hints of Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella. At least that’s how I viewed it while reading it. It’s an intriguing novel, and if you’re a fan of fairy tale retellings, this one just might be for you.

My beauty my books – Guest post

I’ve always been a fan of the “slow burn.” When reading fantasy, I’m accustomed to the often slow build to big action sequences. In fantasy romance, the best stories are when characters at odds eventually give in to all that romantic tension. I bring this same love to most of my stories, and when writing Craving Beauty, this is most evident when Vynasha finally meets her “Beast.”

@mochi.cozy (Instagram) – Review

This was a change from my usual read so took me a bit longer to get into it, but all in all it was an enjoyable read. Ended on a big cliffhanger, but loved the ending and Vynasha’s priorities never changed through the book. I did feel some more character building would’ve helped me connect with the main characters more and more detail on the curse would have been good, but it was a short book so not as much space for this and maybe explored more in the next book? Swipe to see some of the gorgeous details in this paperback, the design work was definitely a nice surprise!
